When
3 September 2025 – 2 January 2026
Affects
Menzies ground handling (Portuguese airports)

After the summer strikes, the SIMA and ST unions gave notice of strikes at Menzies on 76 days between 3 September 2025 and 2 January 2026, including Christmas and New Year. Minimum services required up to 100% of flights within Portugal, including to Madeira and the Azores, and 35% of international flights; the union said that meant about 80% of normal operations. On the first day, 3 September, the union said arrivals were delayed but no flights were cancelled. On 18 September the union called off all the remaining strike days, saying the minimum services left no real right to strike.

What to do

Strike notices at Portuguese airports are sometimes called off or scaled back. If a strike is announced for your travel dates, check again a day or two before you fly.
