- Menzies ground handling (Portuguese airports)
Ground-handling staff at Menzies (formerly Groundforce), which handles passengers, bags and aircraft on the ground for TAP and other airlines, struck for four days at the height of summer. The SIMA and ST unions called it over base pay below the national minimum wage, better pay and payment for night hours. On the first day ANA, the airport operator, said 19 flights at Lisbon were cancelled, and the union said at least 25 flights had left without passengers' bags or cargo. ANA counted 20 cancellations at Lisbon on the second day.
What to do
In a ground-handling strike, flights can be delayed or cancelled, and some leave without checked bags. Check your flight in the airline's app before you leave for the airport, and pack essentials in your hand luggage.
