What to pack
- A light waterproof jacket, and a warmer layer for the evenings.
- Shoes with good grip. Lisbon's polished stone pavements (calçada) and steep streets get slippery in the rain.
Holidays and traditions
- 1 November, All Saints' Day (Dia de Todos-os-Santos), is a national holiday. In 2026 it falls on a Sunday.
- 11 November, St Martin's Day (São Martinho), is not a holiday, but it is the day for roasted chestnuts and the year's first young wine. Chestnut sellers are on street corners all autumn.
Events
- Web Summit, 9–12 November 2026, in Parque das Nações. It brings tens of thousands of visitors, so if your dates overlap, book your hotel early.
- Christmas lights. Lisbon switches on its Christmas lights in late November, with a ceremony at Praça do Comércio (on 23 November in 2024). The 2026 date has not been announced yet.
- Wonderland Lisboa, the Christmas fair in Parque Eduardo VII, opens at the end of the month. Entry is free. The 2025 edition ran from 28 November to 4 January; the 2026 dates are still to be confirmed.
