Lisbon Christmas markets 2026: dates, hours and how to get there

Lisbon's Christmas season runs from mid-November to early January: a big free fair in Parque Eduardo VII, smaller markets in the Baixa and at Campo Pequeno, lights across the centre, and a ticketed Christmas village in Óbidos, north of Lisbon. Wonderland Lisboa, Parque Eduardo VII

Lisbon's biggest Christmas fair fills part of Parque Eduardo VII, the park above Marquês de Pombal. It is run by the TV channel TVI and the events agency NIU, with the support of the city council. The 2025 edition, the tenth, ran from 28 November 2025 to 4 January 2026. The 2026 dates have not been announced yet; the 2025 dates were announced in mid-October.

  • Entry: free. The ice rink was free too. The big wheel cost €6 in 2025, and the carousels, Christmas train, trampolines and flying chairs €4.50 to €5.
  • What is there: a 26-metre big wheel with views over the city and the river, the ice rink, Santa's house, a market with gifts and crafts, food and drink stalls, and shows through the day.
  • Hours in 2025: Monday to Thursday 13:00 to 22:00, Friday 13:00 to midnight, Saturday 10:00 to 23:00, Sunday 10:00 to 22:00. On 24 and 31 December it opened 10:00 to 16:00, and on 25 December and 1 January 16:00 to 22:00.
  • Getting there: Metro to Marquês de Pombal (Blue and Yellow lines) or Parque (Blue line), then walk up into the park.

Rossio Christmas market

The market in Rossio (Praça D. Pedro IV) is run by the Baixa traders' association, the Associação de Dinamização da Baixa Pombalina. In 2025 it ran from Friday 14 November to 21 December.

  • Entry: free.
  • What is there: stalls with crafts, cheeses, cured meats, cakes, sweets and hot chocolate, Santa's house, a Christmas parade every day at 17:00, and concerts at weekends.
  • Hours in 2025: Sunday to Thursday 10:00 to 22:00; Friday, Saturday and public holidays 10:00 to 23:00.
  • Getting there: Metro to Rossio (Green line) or Restauradores (Blue line), or a train to Rossio station.

Campo Pequeno Christmas market

The Mercado de Natal Avenidas Novas is held at the Campo Pequeno bullring and opens only on two long weekends. In 2025 these were 28 November to 1 December and 5 to 8 December, both around a public holiday.

  • Entry: €2 from age 16, including two €1 discount vouchers for purchases of €10 or more.
  • What is there: craftspeople, designers and small local businesses selling gifts and Christmas sweets.
  • Hours in 2025: 11:00 to 21:00.
  • Getting there: Metro to Campo Pequeno (Yellow line).

The Christmas lights

The city's Christmas lights are switched on with a show at Terreiro do Paço (Praça do Comércio), next to a 30-metre Christmas tree. In 2025 that was on Saturday 22 November at 18:30, and the lights covered 182 km of streets, including Rua Augusta, Rua do Ouro, Rua do Carmo, Rua Garrett and Praça Luís de Camões.

In 2025 the lights were on from 17:30 to 23:00 from Sunday to Thursday, and until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. The 2026 switch-on date has not been announced yet.

Óbidos Vila Natal, a day trip

Óbidos, a walled medieval town north of Lisbon, turns the area inside its castle walls into a Christmas village for families. The 2026 edition runs from 27 November 2026 to 3 January 2027, according to the town council's agenda. Hours and prices for 2026 have not been published yet. In 2025:

  • Tickets: €10 for adults; €8 for children aged 3 to 11; €9 for students aged 12 to 25 and for over-65s; family tickets from €32. Under-3s go free.
  • How tickets work: each ticket is for one entry on a chosen day and time slot, but you can stay as long as you like. Buy online through BOL (obidos.bol.pt) or at the ticket offices in Óbidos; tickets can sell out.
  • What is included: Santa's office, shows, workshops for children and the Christmas market. The ice rink, the carousel, the train, virtual-reality rides and an escape room cost extra.
  • Hours: Monday to Thursday 11:00 to 20:00; Friday to Sunday 10:00 to 21:00; 24 and 31 December 11:00 to 18:00; closed on 25 December and 1 January.
  • Getting there: by bus with Rodoviária do Oeste, by train with CP, or by car on the A8 (exit 15 or 16). It is all outdoors, so dress warmly.

Tips

  • Hours are shorter on 24 and 31 December, and some places close on 25 December and 1 January.
  • In 2025 most details came out between mid-October and early November. We will update this page as the 2026 ones do.
